Our Story

The Harmony Project is a beacon of resilience and collaboration, dedicated to creating a brighter future for every child through music education. Founded in 2001 in Hollywood, California, this transformative initiative began with a simple yet powerful idea: to provide tuition-free music education and social services to children in under-resourced communities. The visionaries behind this movement, including Bob Forst, Margaret Martin, Howard Banchik, Susan Plutsky, Tony Silbert, and Tim Smoot, laid the groundwork for what would become a life-changing program for thousands of children.

Under the leadership of co-founder Margaret Martin, Harmony Project was envisioned as a public health intervention, investing in children through the study, practice, and performance of music. Over the years, the organization has evolved, with notable leaders like Phoenix Delgado and Myka Miller expanding its reach and impact. Today, under the guidance of Executive Director Natalie Jackson, Harmony Project has grown from serving 36 students to over 4,103 young musicians across Los Angeles.
