Our Story
Founded in 1995 by Robert C. Macauley, The ELM Project began as Camp AmeriKids, a summer camp dedicated to children living with HIV/AIDS. This initiative aimed to reach an underserved population, providing a safe haven for growth and connection. In 2005, the Leader-In-Training Program was introduced to support teens during a pivotal time in their lives. Despite challenges, including the economic downturn in 2009, the camp emerged as an independent nonprofit, thanks to the unwavering support of donors and board members. In 2011, the organization expanded its mission to include children with sickle cell disease, and in 2015, the Mentor Program was launched to guide youth into adulthood.
