Our Story
In 2004, a dedicated group of educators, parents, community leaders, and corporate partners, led by the One Hundred Black Men, Inc., opened the first Eagle Academy for Young Men in the South Bronx. This groundbreaking initiative marked the first single-sex boys public school to open in New York City in nearly 30 years, with David C. Banks serving as its Founding Principal. In 2005, The Eagle Academy Foundation was established to enhance educational outcomes for at-risk young men by providing essential professional development to school administrators and teachers within and beyond the Eagle Academy network.
Our Impact
In 2023, the Eagle Academies for Young Men achieved an impressive 98% high-school graduation rate, surpassing the citywide average by 14%. Every Eagle graduate has a post-secondary success plan, with alumni attending prestigious institutions such as the University of Pennsylvania and the United States Military Academy at West Point.
