Our Story
The David Crockett Steam Fire Company No. 1, established in 1841 in Gretna, Louisiana, is the oldest continuously active volunteer fire company in the United States. Founded by twenty-seven dedicated men, this organization has evolved from a humble bucket brigade to a vital community service provider. With a rich history that includes the purchase of a steam fire engine and the establishment of a firefighting museum, the company continues to embody the spirit of volunteerism and community service.
