The Story Behind The Crayon Initiative
The Crayon Initiative was inspired by a simple family dinner when Bryan Ware noticed his children coloring with restaurant crayons. Concerned about the fate of these crayons, which typically end up in landfills, Bryan envisioned a way to repurpose them. He began collecting, sorting, and melting down old crayons, transforming them into bright, paper-free crayons designed specifically for children. With the help of an occupational therapist, he created a unique three-sided design that is easy for little hands to grip and prevents rolling off trays. This innovative approach led to a network that distributes free crayons to children in hospitals across the United States.
