Our Story

The Cow Sanctuary was founded by Helga Tacreiter, who turned her grief over lost cows into a mission to rescue calves from slaughter. By creating life-sized stuffed cows, known as Cowches, she has funded the care of countless animals, including cows, emus, horses, goats, pigs, ducks, and geese.
