Our Story

Founded in 1983, Firehouse Ministries operates the most comprehensive continuum of services for men experiencing chronic homelessness in Birmingham and surrounding areas. Each year, approximately 3,000 men benefit from our four daily meals, employment readiness workshops, literacy skills training, and access to a clothing closet. Firehouse Ministries also provides permanent supportive housing for men with serious mental illness, ensuring they receive the care they need.

Impact

As the leading shelter for homeless men in Alabama, Firehouse Ministries serves more individuals than any other agency in the state. Nearly 67% of the men who seek assistance have faced chronic homelessness, with many battling severe mental health issues. Our medical respite program is unique in Alabama, offering a safe haven for those who are too ill to live on the streets but not sick enough for hospitalization.
