Our Story
The Community Action Organization of Western New York Inc was established in 1965 as part of the War on Poverty initiated by the Economic Opportunity Act. Over the years, CAO of WNY has evolved to serve low-income populations in Erie County, New York, becoming a vital part of the Community Action Movement. Under the leadership of Marie Cannon, the first woman to lead the organization, CAO continues to adapt and thrive.
Impact
Each year, CAO of WNY serves close to 50,000 families and individuals, providing integrated, client-focused services to combat poverty and create multigenerational success.
