Our Story

Founded in 1966 by poet and activist Ned O’Gorman, The Children’s Storefront began as a one-room center for young children in Harlem. Today, it has evolved into a tuition-free, private elementary school that focuses on early childhood support, helping parents build their children’s brains during the critical first 1,000 days of life through interactive play and community engagement.

In the past year, The Children’s Storefront has positively impacted over 500 families, with 100% of participants reporting a better understanding of the power of play and feeling supported by their community.
