Our Story
The Children’s Home was established in 1863 as the German Protestant Orphan Association, dedicated to caring for children orphaned by the Civil War. Over the years, it has transformed from an orphanage into a comprehensive service provider for at-risk youth, focusing on trauma-informed care and innovative programs. In 1985, the organization adopted its current name, The Children’s Home, with a mission to assist vulnerable youth both inside and outside the family structure.
