Our Story

The Bel Alton High School Alumni Association was established in 1993 to save the historic Bel Alton High School building from demolition. This building, which served as a segregated high school for African-American students from 1938 until 1966, has been restored thanks to the dedication of its founders who raised over six million dollars. The organization is committed to preserving the cultural history of the school and the Black community it served.

Our Impact

Through the successful renovation of the historic school building, the Bel Alton High School Alumni Association has established a Community Development Center that serves low and moderate-income families. Programs focused on job creation, workforce development, and health education have significantly improved the quality of life in the local community.
