Our Story
In 1981, Barney Welch began a mission to collect leftover food from supermarkets, inspired by a nun's request for help. This compassionate act led to the founding of The Barn for the Poorest of the Poor in 1992. Since then, the organization has mobilized volunteers and donations to deliver food to soup kitchens and shelters across New York and New Jersey, moving over 8 tons of food each week.
