Empowering Immigrants Through Advocacy and Culture
The Association of Salvadorans of Los Angeles (ASOSAL) was founded in 1991 by a dedicated group of Salvadorans committed to fighting for immigration legal status and defending the rights of immigrants. This grassroots organization emerged from the need to create a cultural entity that fosters cultural identification and dissemination among new generations. With six founding members being beneficiaries of the Temporary Protected Status (TPS) program, ASOSAL launched a national campaign titled “For The TPS Extension ASOSAL Present.” This campaign mobilized the community through protests, vigils, and informative outreach, successfully advocating for the rights of immigrants.
Community Impact and Ongoing Efforts
Over the years, ASOSAL has expanded its services to include various departments such as Cultural, Legal, Humanitarian, and Public Relations, all supported by a network of passionate volunteers. The organization has played a pivotal role in uniting forces with other pro-immigrant organizations, forming coalitions that amplify their advocacy efforts. Currently, ASOSAL is focused on securing Permanent Residence for TPS and DACA applicants, as well as those seeking political asylum.
