Our Story
In 2005, a 12-year-old Ethiopian farm boy named Temesgen Gamacho faced a life-threatening illness. His mother sold their animals to fund a 12-hour journey to seek medical care in Addis Ababa. Despite an amputation, Temesgen's cancer returned, and treatment options in Ethiopia were exhausted. A chance encounter with an American couple led him to the U.S. for treatment, but tragically, he did not survive. This heartbreaking story inspired the formation of The Aslan Project in 2012, aimed at improving pediatric cancer treatment in Ethiopia.
Our Impact
Since its inception, Aslan has focused on developing Ethiopia's first comprehensive pediatric cancer programs, proving that pediatric cancers can be treated and cured in low-resource settings.
