Our Story

Founded in 2008 by David Wasserman, The Art Therapy Project began as a response to the mental health needs of female veterans in New York City. With the support of the School of Visual Arts, the organization evolved from the Art Therapy Outreach Center into The Art Therapy Project in 2016, reflecting a commitment to collaborative mental health services. Since 2011, TATP has provided free art therapy programs to diverse communities, ensuring that individuals from all backgrounds have access to healing through creativity.

Our Impact

Over 10,000 clients have benefited from TATP's services, with more than 800 individuals receiving support annually through 30+ weekly group art therapy sessions. The organization partners with over 20 community organizations to reach those in need.
