Our Story

Founded in 1877 by Mrs. J. Young Scammon, The Antiquarian Society has a rich legacy of promoting decorative arts and supporting charitable organizations. Evolving from the Chicago Society of Decorative Art, the Society has dedicated itself to acquiring and preserving significant decorative arts for the Art Institute of Chicago, celebrating the applied arts of Europe and the Americas.
