Our Story

The Africa-America Institute (AAI) was founded in 1953 by a dedicated group of American educators aiming to support African students in their pursuit of higher education in the United States. Over the decades, AAI has evolved to bridge Africa and its diaspora, focusing on education, community building, and economic sovereignty. With a rich history of over 70 years, AAI has provided scholarships to over 23,000 Africans, including notable alumni such as H.E. Cyril Ramaphosa and the late Dr. Wangari Maathai.

Impact

For over 70 years, AAI has successfully bridged Africa and its diaspora, fostering a community of leaders who contribute to a more equitable world. The organization has played a significant role in shaping U.S. policies toward Africa and has been instrumental in promoting education and leadership among Africans and African Americans.
