Founded in 1986 by Marilyn Price, Chicago Voyagers began as a vision to provide at-risk teens with the opportunity to experience the joy and empowerment of mountain biking. Initially a pilot program in San Rafael, California, it evolved into a nonprofit organization in 1988, expanding to the Midwest with the establishment of the first chapter in Fox Valley in 2002. In 2008, Chicago Voyagers emerged as an affiliate, dedicated to fostering healthy lifestyles, environmental awareness, and personal empowerment for underserved youth in Chicago and surrounding areas.

Impacting Communities

Chicago Voyagers serves hundreds of teens annually, focusing on those in underserved neighborhoods. Through experiential, relationship-based outdoor programming, participants develop essential life skills. The organization employs best practices from neuroscience and social work, yielding measurable outcomes. Evaluations show that youth engaged in programs for at least eight days experience a 92% increase in responsibility, a 94% boost in confidence, and a 92% improvement in teamwork. These enhancements correlate with a 0.7 increase in GPA and a significant reduction in disciplinary actions.
