Connecting Children with Nature

In the early 2000s, research revealed a troubling trend: children were spending less time outdoors and more time engaged with screens. This shift coincided with rising childhood obesity rates, prompting a grassroots movement inspired by Richard Louv's book, 'Last Child in The Woods.' In 2009, Texas legislators initiated a partnership to develop a strategic plan aimed at reconnecting children with nature, leading to the formation of regional collaboratives across Texas. Today, the Texas Children in Nature Network (TCiNN) boasts over 900 partners dedicated to ensuring equitable access to nature for all children.
