Our Story

In 1997, the tragic deaths of four children due to severe maltreatment ignited a movement in Rowan County, North Carolina. Concerned citizens, led by dedicated social worker Kim Mork, organized the first Child Abuse Prevention Walk, which laid the foundation for what would become the Terrie Hess Child Advocacy Center. Incorporated in May 2000, this 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization opened its doors in March 2005, following a nationally recognized model for addressing allegations of child abuse. In 2022, the center rebranded to honor its mission and legacy.

Our Impact

The Terrie Hess Child Advocacy Center is committed to preventing child abuse through innovative programs. The Stop-Go-Tell initiative, launched in 2014, educates first- and fifth-graders on how to recognize and avoid abuse. Additionally, parenting education programs initiated in 2016 empower caregivers with the skills to create safe and supportive environments for their children.
