Teaching Beyond the Square is a nonprofit organization based in New York City, founded in 2013 to address the critical need for early childhood education. With a focus on research and discovery, the organization promotes children's curiosity and questioning beyond traditional classroom settings.

The Wonder of Learning Exhibit

In 2015, Teaching Beyond the Square had the honor of hosting The Wonder of Learning Exhibit, a 7,000 square foot traveling exhibit from Reggio Emilia, Italy. This exhibit showcased the complex project work of children and teachers, inspiring over 11,000 educators, parents, and city officials during its tenure in Brooklyn. The exhibit sparked rich discussions about transforming educational practices in the U.S. and highlighted the importance of viewing young children as capable learners.

Impact on Education

Since the exhibit, Teaching Beyond the Square has made significant strides in early childhood education. The organization has consulted with over 75 public and independent schools, provided 3,000 lbs of materials through its Materials Center, and hosted over 1,500 educators at various workshops and symposiums. This work has directly impacted over 225 classrooms, ensuring that children encounter innovative educational practices every day.
