Our Story

Taste of the South was founded in 1982 by a group of southern transplants in Washington, D.C. to celebrate the spirit and cuisine of the South while supporting causes in the states they called home. The first event was held in April 1983, featuring 12 states, and has since grown to represent 13 states, raising over $5 million for more than 150 non-profit organizations.
