Our Story

Founded in 2014 by Sharon Schafer and Anne Rohan, Taproot Kitchen emerged from a vision to create an inclusive community for young adults with autism and intellectual disabilities. After their children graduated high school, they transformed their dream into reality, establishing a volunteer organization that supports culinary training and community engagement. From humble beginnings in cooking classes, Taproot Kitchen has evolved into a thriving catering business, delivering chef-quality meals across the Centre Region.

Our Impact

Taproot Kitchen empowers adults with intellectual disabilities through culinary training and meaningful employment, fostering integration into the State College community.
