Founded in 1998 by passionate horsewomen Judith Hopkins and Debra Avery, Taking The Reins (TTR) has been a beacon of hope for Los Angeles' historically under-resourced urban girls. Starting with just five horses and a converted classroom, TTR has grown into a thriving organization dedicated to empowering young girls through equestrian programs, gardening, and animal husbandry.

In 2018, TTR achieved a significant milestone by retiring the mortgage on its property, allowing for the expansion of its facilities. The completion of a state-of-the-art equestrian center in May 2020 marked a new chapter in TTR's journey, providing a safe and nurturing environment for girls to learn and grow. Over the past 25 years, TTR has positively impacted the lives of more than 4,000 children, helping them develop confidence, leadership, and teamwork skills.
