Our Story

In 2006, Joy MacVane began a simple act of kindness by leaving homemade cookies on the sidewalk of her downtown Chapel Hill home for UNC-CH students. This small gesture blossomed into a community movement when students expressed their desire to serve local children in need. In 2007, Joy and her dedicated volunteers founded Table Ministries, Inc., now known as TABLE, to address the urgent need for food assistance for children in the Chapel Hill-Carrboro area.

Impact

Since its inception in 2008, TABLE has distributed over 3,100,000 healthy meals and snacks to local children. Currently, 1,000 kids are enrolled in our food access programs, with an additional 100 on our waitlist. Every week, volunteers deliver nutritious food directly to the doorsteps of children, ensuring they have access to balanced meals and the opportunity to simply be kids.

Your contribution directly supports TABLE's mission to provide healthy food and nutrition education to local children, costing just $30 per week per child. With 80% of donations going to program costs, every dollar makes a significant impact. TABLE is proud to be an agency of the Food Bank of Central and Eastern NC, holding a platinum transparency rating on Candid and four stars on Charity Navigator.
