Our Story
T A P INC, known as TAP, began its journey in a small storefront on Hutton Street in Troy, New York, during the turbulent 1960s and 70s. Initially a volunteer organization, TAP dedicated itself to building parks, running summer art programs, and advocating against exploitative landlords and misguided urban renewal projects. With the establishment of paid staff in 1972, TAP expanded its mission, developing professional and architectural skills to support non-profit agencies and low to moderate-income clients. Today, TAP employs eight professionals, including three licensed architects, and collaborates with volunteers and interns from local colleges. Each year, TAP undertakes over one hundred projects across the Capital District, serving vulnerable populations such as victims of domestic violence, the homeless, and economically disadvantaged families.
