Our Story

In late 2010, a dedicated group of volunteers embarked on a mission to combat food waste and hunger in Santa Barbara County. Armed with a pickup truck, they visited local farmers willing to share their surplus produce. The first boxes of rescued fruits and vegetables were delivered to the local senior center, marking the beginning of a transformative journey. By the end of 2011, Veggie Rescue was officially established as a nonprofit organization, having delivered an impressive 50,000 pounds of fresh produce. Today, with the support of hardworking volunteers and a small staff, Veggie Rescue collects and delivers hundreds of thousands of pounds of produce each year, increasing their volume by 30% annually over the last three years.

Our Impact

Since its inception, Veggie Rescue has successfully rescued 3.4 million pounds of food, valued at $5.9 million, effectively addressing food waste and food insecurity in the community.
