Our Story
In response to rising food and gas prices, Syracuse community members are embracing the power of community gardening and urban agriculture. These urban gardens not only reduce household food budgets but also foster neighborly connections, beautify vacant lots, and enhance access to fresh produce. Despite the success of various projects, a collaborative effort among stakeholders is essential to support existing gardens and expand urban agriculture across Syracuse. Inspired by successful programs in other Upstate New York cities, Syracuse Grows has emerged as a grassroots network dedicated to cultivating a just foodscape. By providing education, resources, and programming, Syracuse Grows empowers residents to engage in urban food cultivation.
