About SW Trails PDX
SW Trails PDX is a dedicated nonprofit organization focused on enhancing pedestrian and biking safety in southwest Portland. Established decades ago, the organization has worked tirelessly to develop over 40 miles of urban trails, providing residents with safer routes to local shops, parks, and public transportation.
Our Story
In a region where streets are often steep and narrow, SW Trails PDX emerged to address the challenges faced by walkers and cyclists. Collaborating with city and state agencies, the organization has successfully created a network of off-road trails that utilize city rights-of-way, parks, and easements. Volunteers play a crucial role in constructing new trails and maintaining existing ones, ensuring that the community has safe and accessible walking options.
In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, SW Trails PDX launched a series of self-led hikes accessible through a mobile app, allowing individuals to explore the beautiful outdoors at their own pace. Additionally, the organization hosts two community walks each month, fostering a sense of togetherness while promoting physical and mental well-being.
