Our Story

Sustainable Ocean Alliance (SOA) is a global nonprofit organization created by youth—for youth. Founded in 2014 by Daniela V. Fernandez during her first year at Georgetown University, SOA aims to activate young people and develop innovative solutions to restore the health of the ocean. Today, it stands as the world’s largest network of young ocean leaders, innovators, and policymakers, having accelerated over 370 solutions to combat the greatest threats facing our oceans.

Impact

In 2023, SOA achieved a remarkable milestone by deploying $1.08 million USD in grants and investments, alongside $694,000 through Seabird Ventures. This dual approach has empowered startups to navigate fundraising challenges effectively. Since 2018, SOA has invested $4.66 million USD, supporting over 376 solutions across 83 countries, creating blue jobs and stimulating blue economies in critical ecosystems.
