Surge Institute
EIN: 47-1995566 · Chicago, IL
Our Story
The Surge Institute was founded in 2014 by Carmita Semaan to address the lack of diversity in educational leadership. Recognizing the profound impact this has on students of color, Surge aims to educate and develop leaders who can create transformative change in their communities. With programs like the Surge Fellowship, launched in 2015, Surge elevates diverse talent to influence the education landscape across multiple cities, including Oakland and Washington D.C.
Impact
Surge Institute has positively impacted over 3 million students and aims to serve 5,000 leaders by 2030. By fostering a network of change-makers, Surge is committed to systemic change in educational practices.
