Our Story

Supportive Housing Communities began in 1993 when two churches on Tryon Street united to address the urgent needs of the homeless community. St. Peter Catholic Church, under the leadership of Father Eugene McCreesh, played a pivotal role in this initiative. Initially, the organization provided affordable housing by renting rundown houses, but it has since evolved to include the development of McCreesh Place, a supportive housing community established in 2003, and a Scattered Site Program that places chronically homeless individuals and families in various rental units throughout Charlotte.

Impact

In FY 2022, 97% of residents with mental illness avoided emergency services for mental health crises, and 96% maintained stable housing.
