Our Story

Founded in October 2012, Support the Enlisted Project (STEP) is a dedicated 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in San Diego. STEP was established to assist young military and Veteran families facing financial crises. Over the years, the unwavering support for STEP’s mission has been remarkable. To date, STEP has successfully served over 6,300 military and Veteran families through its Emergency Financial Assistance (EFA) program.

Families seeking help from STEP often face the risk of losing essential needs such as housing, transportation, utilities, and even basic necessities like food and baby diapers. With the guidance of professional Social Workers, each family receives personalized counseling that employs a holistic approach to personal finance. This ensures that every family leaves STEP with a clearer understanding of their financial situation and a tailored plan to achieve their goals.

Our Impact

STEP has issued over $2.1 million in financial assistance grants, successfully preventing 510 in-process evictions. More than 90% of families completing the EFA program report improved financial well-being, showcasing the effectiveness of STEP’s support.
