Our Story
In 2018, a small initiative led by Ukrainians Vlad Doruda and Andriy Stefurak, along with American Robert Hay, blossomed into the Sunflower Community. Initially aimed at mentoring a few Ukrainian orphans, this project has expanded to support thousands of orphans and individuals with disabilities across Ukraine. The Community began by collaborating with a local organization focused on mentoring teenagers facing difficult circumstances, helping them develop essential independent living skills. This effort quickly spread to various regions, amplifying its impact.
In 2019, the Community partnered with the Kamyanets-Podilsky State Institute, a college dedicated to serving students with disabilities for over 40 years. Through generous contributions, the Community financed crucial construction work, making the college wheelchair accessible. Since then, numerous projects have been supported to enhance the educational experience for students with disabilities.
At the heart of the Sunflower Community are young individuals who have faced unimaginable hardships. The Community provides them with both material and moral support, celebrating their resilience and indomitable spirit. Dedicated volunteers continue to drive this mission forward, ensuring that help reaches those who need it most.
