Improving Literacy Skills
Fostering Creativity
Building Confidence in Young Writers

Our Story

Summer Ink began in 1994 when two dedicated history teachers, Debbie Reck and Arthur Unobskey, recognized a pressing need among their students, particularly those from underserved areas, to express themselves effectively in writing. This realization led to the creation of The Writers’ Express, a summer writing program that has since evolved into a national model for engaging students in writing outside the classroom.

Impact

Through its innovative approach, Summer Ink empowers students to discover their voices as writers, equipping them with essential tools to influence their communities through the written word. The program has significantly transformed the writing skills of countless students, fostering both confidence and creativity.
