Founded in 1966 by community professionals, Suicide Prevention and Crisis Services of Yolo County (SPYC) emerged from a grassroots effort to provide crisis response services. Initially supported by local churches and service groups, SPYC became a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in 1980 to address the growing need for mental health support. In February 2023, SPYC transitioned its local crisis line operations to the National Lifeline/988, ensuring continued support for those in crisis.
