In 1986, Harry Shabazian, a dedicated teacher in East Los Angeles, completed the LA Marathon and felt a profound transformation. Inspired, he invited his students—many labeled as misfits—to join him in training for the next marathon. This initiative not only led these young individuals to finish the marathon but also helped them graduate high school and pursue higher education and careers. Today, Students Run America has expanded from a handful of participants to over 3,200 students across 175 schools in the Greater Los Angeles area.

Making an Impact

Since its inception, Students Run America has inspired over 70,000 young people. Remarkably, 99% of students who start the marathon successfully finish it, showcasing the program's effectiveness in fostering resilience and determination.
