Our Story
American Indian and Alaska Native women face alarming rates of violence and murder, a crisis that has deeply affected the safety and honor of women in tribal communities. In 2012, a collaboration between The Hotline and the National Indigenous Women’s Resource Center (NIWRC) led to the creation of a dedicated Native hotline. This initiative was designed by and for Native advocates, ensuring culturally relevant support for tribal communities across the United States. With insights from tribal leaders and domestic violence experts, the StrongHearts Native Helpline was launched on March 6, 2017, in Minneapolis, MN. Today, it serves as a vital resource for Native American and Alaska Native individuals affected by domestic and sexual violence, providing a culturally-appropriate, anonymous, and confidential service available 24/7 nationwide.
