Our Story
Steps to Success was founded in January 1995 by Michelle Straw and Chris Lawson, beginning its journey in the basement of the Upper Leacock War Memorial Building with just 21 children. Over the years, the organization has grown significantly, receiving a grant in 1999 to develop dedicated playgrounds for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers. In 2001, a Christian curriculum was introduced, reflecting the values of the community it serves.
In 2011, Steps to Success achieved a STAR 4 rating through the Keystone STARS quality initiative, showcasing its commitment to quality early childhood education. A partnership with Conestoga Valley School District was established to provide Pre-Kindergarten programs, further expanding access to quality education for local families.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Steps to Success adapted by offering before and after school programs, ensuring that children continued to receive the support they needed. In March 2021, the child care center relocated to the Education Wing of Zion Lutheran Church, and by August 2022, a fifth school-age program was launched in Donegal School District, demonstrating resilience and dedication to community needs.
