Step Up to Justice: Bridging the Justice Gap

Founded in 2016, Step Up to Justice (SU2J) is a privately funded nonprofit law firm dedicated to addressing the critical gaps in civil legal services for low-income individuals and families in Pima County. With less than 6% of the 140,000 people in need receiving assistance, SU2J steps in to provide essential legal support in areas such as family law, bankruptcy, evictions, minor guardianship, employment, and consumer protection.

What sets SU2J apart is its innovative volunteer model, which has successfully recruited 250 volunteer attorneys. This allows the organization to assist all financially qualifying individuals, including undocumented migrants, without the constraints of government funding. Additionally, SU2J engages in proactive community outreach, educating low-income residents about their rights and responsibilities before legal issues arise.

Impacting Lives Through Legal Services

Since its inception, Step Up to Justice has served 9,955 applicants and conducted 3,769 client clinics, significantly increasing access to emergency legal services for low-income residents in Pima County.
