Empowering Future Leaders

Step Ahead Scholars began as a college prep workshop addressing the challenges faced by Black, LatinX, immigrant, and first-generation students. Founded by Kamal Carter, an Atlanta public school teacher, and Debra Nealy, a college access advocate, this initiative has evolved into a vital resource for students and families seeking guidance in navigating the college landscape. Through programs like Lunch With a Mentor, Step Ahead Scholars provides essential information, resources, and mentorship to bridge the college equity divide.

Transforming Lives Through Education

With a remarkable track record, Step Ahead Scholars has served over 5,600 students, helping them secure more than $75 million in scholarships and grants. The organization boasts a 97% college enrollment rate and a 96% college graduation rate, demonstrating its commitment to educational equity.
