Our Story
Founded in 2014 by Dr. Keli Christopher, STEM Greenhouse is dedicated to addressing the lack of diversity in STEM professions. As a young girl in an inner-city school, Dr. Christopher faced challenges in math but overcame them to become the first Black person to earn a Ph.D. in Agricultural Engineering from the University of Illinois. Her journey inspired the creation of a science and math education initiative that offers engaging, hands-on experiences for K-12 students in the greater Grand Rapids area.
Impact
STEM Greenhouse has significantly impacted the lives of children and families in West Michigan. In 2021, students at the Sankofa STEM Academy saw a remarkable 30.7% increase in math computation scores, while STEM Scholars achieved 69% more growth than expected on Michigan’s MAP Test.
