About STEHM Inc.

Founded in 1986, STEHM Inc. began as a grassroots effort among local churches to assist individuals facing emergencies and homelessness. Initially providing emergency shelter in motels, the organization has evolved significantly over the years. In 1988, STEHM opened Martha House, a transitional shelter aimed at helping unhoused individuals gain self-sufficiency and move into independent housing. The organization expanded its services by acquiring additional properties, now known as Martha House I and II, which have collectively sheltered over 7,000 individuals since inception.

Impact of STEHM

In FY 2023, STEHM’s Motel Ministry provided emergency shelter to 1,267 individuals, including men, women, and children. The comprehensive case management program at the Martha Houses equips residents with education, job training, and employment opportunities, facilitating their transition to stable, independent living.
