Our Story
After Hurricane Sandy devastated their private studio and metal shop, DB Lampman and Scott Van Campen opened their doors to the community, leading to the establishment of Staten Island MakerSpace on October 28, 2013. With support from the NYC Economic Development Corporation and countless volunteers, this nonprofit has become a cultural anchor in Staten Island, helping thousands of creative entrepreneurs launch their projects. In 2019, MakerSpace NYC expanded by partnering with the NYCEDC to open the Futureworks MakerSpace at the Brooklyn Army Terminal, solidifying its position as New York City's largest and best-equipped makerspace.
