Our Story

The Starkweather Arts Center, established in 1989, is a vibrant cultural hub in Romeo, Michigan, born from the vision of Helen Starkweather. After her passing in 1987, Helen's estate was entrusted to the Romeo Historical Society and the Village of Romeo, ensuring her home and studio would serve as a center for art and culture. Officially opened to the public in 1999, the center features exhibit galleries and a sales gallery, fostering a deep appreciation for art and artisans in the community.

Our Impact

Since its inception, the Starkweather Arts Center has significantly enriched the local arts culture, hosting numerous art shows, educational programs, and community events. The center has raised over $20,000 through its Empty Bowls program, directly addressing food insecurity in the community.
