Our Story

Stafford Animal Shelter is an open-door facility that welcomes all pets in need, regardless of age, species, breed, or medical condition. Established in 1986 as the Humane Society of Park County, the shelter evolved into Stafford Animal Shelter in 1999, thanks to a generous donation that funded its facility. Over the years, the shelter has expanded, adding a new cat wing and a dedicated rescue center. After a devastating flood in 2022, the shelter was rebuilt and reopened in January 2023, continuing its mission to care for displaced animals and facilitate adoptions.

Our Impact

Serving the greater Southwestern Montana area, Stafford Animal Shelter provides essential care for abandoned and homeless pets. Approximately half of the animals taken in are reclaimed by their owners, while the other half find new homes through adoptions. The shelter also plays a vital role in community outreach and humane education, helping to minimize pet overpopulation.

Why Donate?

Donations are crucial for the operation of Stafford Animal Shelter, as it does not receive sustainable funding from government sources. Contributions help provide care for the animals, support community outreach programs, and ensure the shelter can continue its lifesaving work. Donors can make a one-time or monthly contribution, and there are various ways to support the shelter, including memorial tributes and supply donations.
