Our Story

Founded in 1911, Saint Vincent’s Day Home emerged from the urgent need for quality childcare in West Oakland during a time of crisis. The Sisters of the Holy Family recognized that many mothers were working in canneries while fathers were away, leaving children without care. They established a nurturing environment in a historic Queen Anne Victorian home, where over 40,000 children have since found safety and education.

Our Impact

As a model high-quality child development center, Saint Vincent’s Day Home addresses the physical, emotional, and cognitive needs of children, laying the groundwork for their lifelong success.
