Our Story
Founded in 1833 by Frederic Ozanam, the St. Vincent de Paul Society emerged from a deep compassion for the impoverished in Paris. Inspired by the teachings of Christ, Ozanam and his friends dedicated themselves to serving the poor, embodying the principles of love and charity. The first American conference was established in St. Louis in 1845, and today, the society operates in 131 countries, with over 750,000 volunteers committed to helping those in need. The St. Vincent de Paul Store of Houma continues this legacy, providing essential support to the local community.
