Our Story

In 1946, parishioners at St Thomas Catholic Church initiated a mission to serve the poor and homeless in North Idaho by establishing a clothing closet. This humble beginning laid the foundation for what is now St Vincent de Paul North Idaho, one of the largest homeless and social service agencies in the region. Today, SVDP operates over 300 units of affordable housing, the only Men's Emergency Shelter in the area, and a Women and Children's Emergency Shelter. Additionally, SVDP provides a Winter Warming Shelter, hot meals five nights a week at Father Bill's Kitchen, and essential services such as shower and laundry facilities, job readiness programs, and case management.

Impact

In 2020, SVDP provided over 6,000 unduplicated services and 3,000 bed nights for the homeless community, making a significant impact in Kootenai County.
