Our Story
Since its inception in 1905, St. Paul’s United Methodist Church has served as a sacred space in the heart of Houston, where individuals come together to seek, find, and respond to God’s love and grace. Founded by Mrs. J. O. Ross, who donated property after her recovery from illness, the church has grown from humble beginnings in the Winnie Davis Auditorium to a vibrant community that continues to thrive today.
Over the years, St. Paul’s has expanded its facilities and outreach, moving to its current location at Main and Binz/Bissonnet in 1930. Despite challenges such as the Great Depression, the congregation has remained steadfast in its mission, paying off debts and enhancing its facilities, including the addition of the Jones Youth Building and the establishment of St. Paul’s School.
St. Paul’s is not just a church; it is a community committed to making a difference. Through partnerships with organizations like SEARCH Homeless Services and the Emergency Aid Coalition, St. Paul’s actively engages in providing food and support to those in need, embodying the spirit of hospitality, justice, and compassion.
